As a figurative artist, Amy F. Levine has always been captivated by human individuality. She expresses this in a body of work that can best be described as sculptural paintings. Some pieces may lean more toward painting and others toward sculpture, but all seek to blur the lines of distincition that separate the two disciplines. Regardless of the format, Ms. Levine's work often brings the viewer closer to her childhood in New York and her fascination with the color, shape and movement of a city street.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1956, her parents moved to Long Island while she was still a child. She studied art at Binghamton University, taking a semester to study art in Tours, France. After graduation, Ms. Levine studied at the Art Student's League in Manhattan, while assisting artist Carole Jean Feuerman in her studio. In 1985 she received her M.F.A. from C.W. Post College. She has had numerous one person shows in New York and North Carolina.

Ms. Levine's work has been featured in many group shows at galleries and cultural centers. These include Primavera Gallery, Huntington, N.Y., Gallery C, Raleigh N.C., Bleeker St. Gallery, Carrboro, NC, the Durham Art Guild and Duke University, both of Durham, N.C., Beaufort Fine Arts, Beaufort, N.C. and Studio E Gallery, Jupiter Florida.
